The Poet Compact is a stand-alone reading
machine with an excellent speech-output.
With the new Poet compact, you are able to
listen to all kinds of printed material at the touch of a button - without
having to study long and complicated instructions before.
All you have to do is place your material on
the glass of the scanner - like on a photocopier - lean back and let the
Poet do the rest for you.
You don't need any computer skills to operate
this product. All components are integrated in an elegant case with a few
keys on the front. All you have to do is plug in the main cable, switch it
on and start reading.
Poet compact automatically recognizes the
page orientation on the glass, takes a picture of the page, converts the
picture into spoken language and reads it aloud to you - and not only in
English.
Though easy to use, Poet Compact offers quite
a lot of additional features. You may vary for example the reading speed -
slow, normal or fast, while the pitch doesn't change. Different language
versions such as German, French, Italian, Russian will be available soon.
Poet works with an powerful speech output,
which is very comfortable to listen to. As the speech fragments are not
created synthetically, but are derived from the human voice, it sounds most
natural. Besides the speech output, Poet Compact offers also a possibility
for Braille output.
Poet Compact has an enormous memory: The
built-in hard disk can storage a huge quantity of pages, that can be easily
retrieved and read out again. It has sufficient capacity to save far more
than 500,000 pages. That means the Poet could read to you off his memory
for about ten years - if you calculate three minutes for the reading out of
one page for 8 hours a day - provided you gave it this amount to read in
advance.
Saving documents is very simple: Just speak a
name for the document into the integrated microphone and press the
respective button - that's all. Under that name, you will then later find
your text again.

kilograms. Beside the on-off switch, there are only five keys and two
rotary knobs. They are easy to find: large, with tactile markings. An
